Perfect, No More

New York, NY –
On Sunday, around 4:00 EST,
the New Orleans Saints, will be the only remaining 12-0 team in
the National Football League.
They are traveling to the Nation’s
capital to take on the dismal Washington Redskins, and if anyone thinks
they’re losing to a Jim Zorn coached team – you’re crazy.
So, as our attention turns
to the other undefeated team, the Indianapolis Colts, they will not
be so lucky.
Their rookie head coach, Jim
Caldwell, is about to lose his first NFL game. And for all the Peyton
Manning fans out there, who want to see arguably the greatest quarterback
of all-time add a perfect regular season to his magnificent resume that
already includes three NFL regular season Most Valuable Player (MVP)
awards, a Super Bowl MVP award, and being the all-time leader in career
wins, career passing yards, pass attempts, pass completions, and passing
touchdowns for the Colts franchise, you are going to have to wait at
least one more year.
Because when Vince Young and
the Tennessee Titans travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts, the
Titans will leave Indianapolis, still with a chance of clinching one
of the AFC Wild Card spots.
The Rosen Report got a “Six”
sense, that a titanic upset is about to take place, and its going to
happen on Peyton’s own turf, Lucas Oil Stadium.
Tennessee 27 Indianapolis 21
After a remarkable 2008 season,
finishing the year with a league’s best 13-3 record, the 2009 Titans
got off to a rocky start by losing their first 6 games of the season.
Even though twenty-one players from last’s year team were returning,
except for top defensive tackle, Albert Haynesworth, who was lost to
the Redskins via free agency, no one expected this team, and especially,
Kerry Collins to struggle, but they did. Collins, who was the
opening day starter, had thrown just 5 TD passes, and only had a better
quarterback rating than Jake Delhomme, Jamarcus Russell and Derek Anderson.
So with Collins struggles’
looming over this team, and while head coach Jeff Fisher believed Collins
was not at fault, the Titans were not winning. At that point,
Titans owner Bud Adams insisted it was time for a quarterback change.
He adamantly urged Fisher to make Young the starter for the remainder
of the season, and he listened.
What a decision it has turned
out to be.
Young has lead this team to
five consecutive wins, but no win was more impressive than last weeks
20-17 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. As he led his team on an 18
play, 99-yard drive, and connected on a 4th & goal, as he incredibly
found Rutgers own Kenny Britt in the end zone, as time expired.
This was the quarterback everyone
remembered when he wore the white and burnt orange colors, as a Texas
Longhorn. Young showed his ability to be great, and there is no doubt,
he is going to spoil Indy’s perfect season on Sunday.
Much is at stake, as AFC South
rivals get ready to duel. The Titans are on life support because
with one loss, their season is over. And although the Colts clinched
the division with a victory last Sunday, they look to become just the
2nd team in NFL history to finish the regular season, with a perfect
16-0 record.
But with the holidays around
the corner, and many Colts fan hoping for the gift of perfection, it’s
going to be a disappointing time of year.
Vince Young will prove he is
a pocket-passer, and not just a run-first quarterback. Running
back sensation Chris Johnson will continue his rush towards greatness,
as he needs 709 more rushing yards to break Eric
Dickerson NFL''s single-season rushing record of 2,105 rushing yards.
And the dynamic-duo of Young and Johnson will be too much for the Colts
to overcome.
This offense
is more dangerous with Young at the helm. And Johnson is a better running
back, as well. In the 6 games started by Collins, Johnson averaged
just 99.3 yards per game. However, in the five games since Young has
taken over, he''s averaged 160 yards per game – just another reason
why the Titans have been winning.
But if the
Titans want to continue their winning streak, their 31st
ranked passing defense will need to depend on Johnson’s 126.9 rushing
yards per game, because they might not be able to stop the best quarterback
on the planet, and his #1 ranked passing offense, when Manning has the
ball.
But as long
as the Titans offense remains on the field, with Manning on the sideline,
he will not be able to punish, and exploit this awful secondary of the
Titans.
However, if
the Colts want to stay perfect, their mediocre 15th ranked
rushing defense will need to contain, the top ranked rushing team in
the NFL, and their impressive 169 yards per game. But that is
not going to happen.
It’s hard to imagine that
just 5 weeks ago, the New England Patriots dominated the Titans, 59-0,
as they suffered their worse loss in franchise history, and the Titans
season appeared to be all, but over.
But the Titans have not lost
since, and won’t be losing any time soon.
Not to the Colts on Sunday.
Not to the Rams in week 14, the Dolphins in week 15, the Chargers in
week 16 or the Seahawks in week 17.
Last week, as Young ran off
the field, he held up all ten fingers. For the 10 wins in a row the
Titans need to make the playoffs. Well Vince, you’re halfway there.
He’s been living a dream
so far; don’t bother waking him up now.
